Abstract
Home Schooling is HARD!
Whether you've made the decision to home school your teenager or just
want to add some depth to the watered down public school curriculum,
designing lessons, teaching and grading assignments can be time
consuming and frustrating.

Crowded classrooms, under staffed buildings and low standards can
adversely affect the education that students receive in public school.
I know. I've been a public school teacher for over 20 years. I've seen
the inadequacies and even the dangers up close. I've watched students
drift away from learning because of untrained teachers. I've seen the
brightest kids lose motivation because of low expectations and I've
seen students with learning problems denied an adequate education
because it's easier for the school to ignore their needs.
Finally, I had enough and I decided to try to do something about it.
I'd tried to affect change from within with no luck--the system is too
big and the culture of low expectations is too ingrained. So what I'm
doing is offering my own curriculum and advice to those of you who want
to either exclusively home school your kids or who want to augment the
public school curriculum.
I also offer tutoring sessions to the first 50 subscribers. Click HERE
for more information
You get lesson plans, lecture notes, worksheets and scoring guides. All
for only $25 per month. My program keeps your student busy and learning
without constant planning, grading and supervision on your part!
Let's be clear--I'm not going to teach the class--you are. But you'll
have a set of clear and proven lesson plans as well as the benefit of
my experience in teaching them. You'll get the student version,
written to your student and containing all the instructions he or she
will need. You also get the teacher's guide. The teacher's guide will
include a rationale for each lesson, the objectives to be met, the
scoring guides and answer keys and suggestions for applying these
lessons to everyday use.
I've set a limit of 500 on this first session so that I can be more
available to help. While I can't answer every email, I will address
issues that rise as you work with the lessons and I'll answer as many
questions as possible. Technical help is always available to make sure
that you can access the lessons. If you desire more interaction and
more guidance, consider enrolling your student in my tutoring sessions.
HomeschoolEnglishOnline is suitable for students who are 13 to 16
years old. The sessions in this program cover the concepts that your
student needs to understand to successfully complete the first year of
high school English. I include advanced assignments with every session
to challenge older or more advanced students.

Each week, you'll receive a set of daily plans. You can use them as
you wish. Most people who home school recognize the need for a daily
schedule. You may choose to work on several subjects per day allowing
an hour or two for each or you may choose to concentrate on one subject
per day. I give you suggestions for incorporating these lessons into
any schedule.
Not only will you get the lesson plans, but you'll get rubrics for
scoring assignments, worksheets for guided and independent practice and
suggestions for testing how well your student retains the information.
Along with that, I'll show you how these lessons fit into the national
standards that many states use to develop questions for their state
assessments.
When you sign up for a 12 week session, you will immediately receive
the first lesson along with the items mentioned above as they pertain
to that lesson. Each lesson contains enough work to keep your student
productively engaged for the week--or maybe even longer. You're the
boss; you determine how long your student needs. Every week, you will
receive a new set of lessons. Each month, you will be billed $25. You
will make your payments through ClickBank. You may cancel your
subscription at any time.
I'll include at least 2 bonus lessons with each 12-week quarter.
The first 12-week quarter covers the basics of writing essays. We
begin with writing solid, efficient sentences, work our way through
writing organized, meaningful paragraphs and then put it all together
in an essay. Your student will write 4 short essays in 4 rhetorical
modes. Along the way, your student will get instruction in some of the
pesky problems in grammar and punctuation that I know can cause
confusion.
The second 12-week quarter will put this new knowledge to work as your
student learns how to research online and using written sources.
Lessons cover evaluating sources, documenting sources and incorporating
sources into research papers.
In the 3rd quarter, your student will apply research skills to
interpret and write nonfiction and fiction. I include links to works
that commonly appear on AP tests, ACT tests and other standardized
assessments. These are stories that college teachers expect students
to be familiar with and more importantly, they are works that have
quality. If you are not comfortable with a particular work, I provide
alternatives that will fit into the quarter just as well.
Finally, in the 4th quarter, we'll study poetry and drama including
Shakespeare. Your student will write about literature using the
techniques and skills developed during the last three quarters and will
continue to experiment with creative writing in several genres.
You can do as many quarters as you want and you are not obligated to
finish a quarter. You will be billed monthly once you sign up and you
may cancel at any time. The only thing to consider is that if you do
cancel a session and then later decide to join again, you have to start
from the beginning. It's the way I have to set it up. I suggest that
you start with the first quarter and go through the whole program
because I do build on the concepts presented in each quarter in the
subsequent quarters. I provide a review and some explanations, but
your student will find the ideas more understandable if he or she
starts with quarter 1 and then continues with the quarters in order.
Now, why do you have to use my program instead of any other? The short
answer is
You don't.
Many qualified people offer great programs that will achieve the same
thing. The choice is up to you. I can tell you that I have a
bachelor's degree in education and a Master of Arts degree in English.
I've taught in public schools for the past 25 years and I've taught
college English courses for the past 10 years. I've even taught online
for 3 years. In other words, I know what I'm talking about and I know
how to teach.
The sessions that I've designed are aligned with national standards and
will help your student understand the concepts and objectives
presented. My goal here is to provide you with a coherent and easy to
use system to teach your own child the things he or she is going to
need to move forward. Another goal, and here I'm speaking as a parent,
is to keep the little darling occupied and interested every day and
every week.
Learning doesn't stop with high school or even college.
People learn as long as they are alive and they learn better and more
if they are enthusiastic about learning. One of the main reasons I'm
doing this is because I have seen too many kids lose their fascination
with learning. When they are little, they can't learn enough fast
enough. The questions just pour out of them: why is the sky blue? How
does this car work? Why are my eyes brown? How did the moon get up
there? Is the wind alive? And on and on and on. Somewhere this
curiosity gets smashed out of them and they turn in to sulky,
disinterested kids whose favorite word is "Whatever". In my opinion,
public school is part of the problem.
I believe that our most important jobs on this planet are to teach and
to learn. I've designed a program that stimulates curiosity, gives
meaningful and logical instruction and has some fun along the way.
Learning is great fun.
You know your kid better than I do and you alone can decide if this
program will work the way we both want it to. Give it a try and let me
know what you think.
Save your student's place in the class. The course limit is 500.
Your initial charge is $25 and you will be billed $25 per month for 3
months. For that, you'll receive 1 set of lessons per week PLUS 2
bonus lessons each month. After you sign up, I'll send an email with
complete instructions for downloading the PDF lessons. You can cancel
at any time and owe nothing.
